RedCare
allows Halon Bank Alarm Receiving Centres to monitor a security system
using the existing telephone line, thereby avoiding the cost of a
dedicated line connection or even the need to install a special
ex-directory line.
Alarm messages are transmitted even when the telephone is engaged, ringing
or off the hook. If the telephone wires are cut an alarm is transmitted by
the system to the Halon Bank Alarm Receiving Centre.
Although using existing telephone lines, the method of operation of
RedCare is not affected by any telephone numbering changes.
The system is highly secure - encrypted and modulated signals are
continually passed between the alarm system control unit and the CARE
Scanner which is situated in the local telephone exchange. If an incorrect
code is received or the signal is lost an alarm is automatically raised at
the Halon Bank Alarm Receiving Centre via the CARE computer.
Up to 8 separate signals can be used to distinguish between different
functions and types of alarms, for example intruder alarms, personal
attack or smoke detectors. Coverage now includes the majority of the
United Kingdom.
