Why
do I need FireCARE Fire Alarm Monitoring?
The majority of fires start after normal working hours, and if your
premises are unattended, vital minutes can pass before a ringing bell
gets noticed, and even if it was heard, would you be confident a
passer by would react accordingly and call the appropriate services.
With FireCARE, a fire alert will be on its way to a central monitoring
station within seconds enabling them to summon the required help
immediately.

There
is always someone on my site 24 hours a day to raise an alarm
During the panic that follows a fire, when the prime concern is to get
everyone out of the building, it is easy to forget to call the
emergency services. What if the person who would raise the alarm is
the very person who needs help because they are trapped by the fire.
With FireCARE, a fire alert will be on it’s way to a central
monitoring station within seconds enabling them to summon the required
help immediately.

My
fire alarm is monitored through the BT RedCare on my intruder alarm.
This is a deviation from British standard. A dual connection will not
meet the required battery standard period for fire alarms so a
separate connection is required.
It is most important that the fire alarm signal is given the highest
priority to protect property and more importantly life – most
businesses can survive a burglary but many don’t survive a fire - a
stolen computer can be replaced but lost orders in a fire cannot! A
separate fire connection means that in the event of an alarm
activation there is no confusion as to which emergency response is
provided and therefore ensures the fire brigade are alerted at the
earliest opportunity.
The fire alarm system should be continuously on-line (a fire can occur
at any time!) the intruder system may not be connected at certain
times of the day.
It will help minimise false alarms and ensure there is no conflict
between the security and fire alarm systems.
In order to comply with the code of practice for fire alarm
installations (as set out in BS5839), it is recommended that the fire
and intruder RedCARE connections are not combined (unless the systems
were specifically designed to function under the standard for
integrated systems BS7807).
Fire and intruder alarms systems require different periods of stand-by
battery back up. Dual linking may lead to an insufficient battery back
up on fire alarm systems.
Fire and intruder alarms are usually fitted by two different
installers offering different maintenance agreements covering their
equipment. By combining these systems onto a common RedCARE connection
could call into question which installer is responsible in the event
of any queries. Also a change in the intruder alarm installation
contract could affect the fire alarm system.
Installation costs could be high if the fire panel is not located near
the intruder panel, as a fire resistant cable would need to connect
the two.
The fire alarm system belongs to the property owner, the intruder
alarm to the occupier. In many cases these will not be the same so the
property owner will not have access to the occupier’s intruder alarm
system.
If the fire alarm system uses any false alarm management systems then
these must be used on a dedicated RedCARE connection.

I
don’t have a spare line.
Unlike digital communicators, you do not need a dedicated telephone
line for RedCare. Halon Bank can speak to BT direct to assess a suitable
line going in to your premises for RedCare.
-
What
type of phone line do I need?
You will need a normal BT analogue telephone line that isn’t used
for ISDN. It can be enabled on a fax or modem line if you buy a MCD
connection box @ £49.
-
Will
the RedCare signal still get through when a phone call is in progress?
Yes. RedCare does not interfere with telephone conversation.
-
It is
more expensive than my digi dialler?
RedCare doesn’t need a dedicated telephone line, and can use an
existing line, so you will save on line rental costs. No call charges
either – unlike digi diallers where you pay for the call.
